Opinion Editor of The Straits Times, Chua Mui Hoong, attended LASALLE’s Sing It! Singapore’s All-Star Poetry Reading on 27 September 2017 and was amazed that she felt more refreshed and energised throughout the rest of the week.

According to published research, engaging in pleasurable evening activities (like cooking or in this case, listening to poetry) allowed one to recuperate better for the next day ahead.

Sing Lit Comes of Age

In this opinion editorial published within The Straits Times, LASALLE’s MA Creative Writing Programme Leader, Dr Darryl Whetter, reflected on the coming of age of Singapore’s literary scene.

From his experience at a recent highly successful poetry reading session, and the formal uptake in creative writing degrees, to the mentorship support now offered more readily by older writers to new, Dr Whetter noted that “Singapore literature has arrived at a stage of maturity that would make the early pioneers proud.”

A Dose Of Art To Ease Fukushima Trauma

Though six years has passed since the tsunami caused the nuclear meltdown in Fukushima, many living near the site are still in the midst of rebuilding their lives. Arguably, those most affected are the children – tender in years, they must try and make sense of the mental and physical trauma around them. In an effort to help them, Japanese non-profit organisations Today Is The Day and Children Are Our Future collaborated with LASALLE College of the Arts and New York University to run the Miracle Kutchie Experience.

Sonance: A Spatial Oeuvre’s Tuning In

A review of MA Fine Arts alumnus Jordi Forniés' solo exhibition Sonance: Sound as Body, Sound as Architecture.

Held at Chan + Hori Contemporary, the exhibition is part of the 2016 Chan-Davies Art Prize annual awards — offered to a graduand each from the BA(Hons) and MA Fine Arts Programmes at LASALLE. The article highlighted that Jordi "has created art with a unique artistic language that uses his clear understanding of materials and their textures to explore their correlation with sound, and hence with form in its cause and existence."

Short Film By LASALLE Alumni In Animation Festival

My World is a work that epitomises interdisciplinary collaboration between diverse individuals. The animation is a brainchild between LASALLE’s Puttnam School of Film and Animation and School of Contemporary Music, with Japanese director Miyako Makio, Singaporean producer Geraldine Toh, Vietnamese animator Nguyen Hong Ngoc Mai, and Chinese music composer Wang Jingyao comprising the team.

Making A Mark In The Design World

In an interview with Lianhe Zaobao, Drayson Phua shares that he came to LASALLE to pursue his passion for design after dropping out of a mechanical engineering course. In 2012, he started his own agency, and in 2016, he was one of the judges of the National Day logo competition. His agency was also responsible for the National Day 2016 branding and design, one of the biggest projects he has taken on to date.
