Local Budding Fashion Designers Get Headstart On Career With LASALLE X Tangs Pop-Up Store

This season, LASALLE College of the Arts in collaboration with TANGS presents a ready-to-wear collection by students from 2015’s BA(Hons) Fashion Design and Textiles Programme. The collection features 150 pieces specially created for TANGS: six diffusion lines inspired by the students’ own graduate collections, themed SG50 – Capsule.

Kimono-Inspired Designs

Inspired by Japanese entrepreneur Miss Noriko Collins' vintage kimono collection, 14 student teams from BA(Hons) Fashion Design and Textiles and BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries gave the traditional garments a modern twist in the works presented in the exhibition titled Kimono In:Tangible. Three participating students talked about their teams' inspirations and the challenges faced.

Two Fashion School Students Showcased In Exhibition Exploring Mystery Of White Shirts

Lianhe Zaobao interviewed two students from the BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries Programme, Chen Junhao and Chen Tujin, on their involvement in 1°17′N The White Shirt Project. This exhibition, jointly presented by BA(Hons) Fashion Design and Textiles Programme and BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries Programme, consisted of 28 projects from design clothing, to fashion photograph, to installation and video work.

Student Wants To Change Perceptions Through Fashion

School of Fashion graduand Sulis Awalluden shares with Berita Harian that her graduation collection, “Glistening Within”, aims to change the common misconception that wearing hijab or dressing modestly is outdated and traditional. Her collection subtly incorporates Islamic elements such as the crescent and stars in their design, while taking inspiration from minimalist styles of the 90s. Sulis is the first LASALLE fashion graduand to focus on modest clothing.

Designing Clothes For People With Disabilities

School of Fashion graduands Elisa Lim, Ethrisha Liaw and Caroline Justine share with Lianhe Zaobao their experience designing functional yet fashionable clothes for wheelchair users. The garments in their graduation collection have been designed with carefully selected breathable fabrics and special features that allow the user to get dressed while still seated.

Graduands incorporate disability considerations into fashion for the first time

Three international brands – Swarovski, Converse and Takasago – will collaborate with LASALLE College of the Arts to give graduating fashion students a boost as they step into the working industry. The collaboration for the graduation showcase involves SGD100,000 worth of products to be incorporated into the students’ collections – the largest external investment in a fashion showcase thus far – and invaluable consultation with the respective brands’ in-house product designers.
