For its annual staging, the Singapore Theatre Festival 2018 by W!ld Rice returns back to LASALLE College of the Arts. As a platform for up-and-coming playwrights to stage new work, this sixth edition witnesses the premiere of seven new. Commenting in a separate interview, resident W!ld Rice playwright Alfian Sa'at noted, "To be a part of the festival is to be part of a community which is supportive, optimistic and really wants the best out of the play because in the end, we want these plays to have a shelf life beyond the festival."

As a crucial part of the local arts and culture ecosystem, LASALLE is proud to play a role in nurturing young performing artists and consumers of arts. Beyond playing host to the festival, numerous LASALLE alumni are also part of the event. On-stage, BA(Hons) Acting alumna Rebekah Sangeetha Dorai takes the lead in Building a Character. She shared: "Being able to do this mammoth of a show at this point in my career is an incredible gift. It means so much to me as an actor, a woman, a member of the minority community, and as a human being that I have a platform and a voice for the issues that so badly need urgent attention."

Her senior by two years in the BA(Hons) Acting programme, Benjamin Chow, also plays a major role in Press Gang. Fresh from his second-time winning Best Supporting Actor at the LIFE! Theatre Awards, the LASALLE alumnus is taking the theatre scene by storm.

The festival runs from 5 to 22 July, and the College expects a major turn-out given the relevancy of issues highlighted within the works. The 500 complimentary tickets for teenagers and young adults were snapped up as soon as they were released.
