Against the backdrop of a challenging fashion retail climate for independent designers, Lianhe Zaobao speaks to three fashion graduands from local institutions on their future and their career plans.

LASALLE graduand Yong De Han, a menswear designer whose BA(Hons) Fashion Design & Textiles graduation collection Tropical Escapism sports eye-catching, diverse Southeast Asian-inspired elements, has set his sights further afield with hopes to attract buyers from thriving markets such as Malaysia and Thailand.

De Han, whose grandmother was a tailor, developed an interest in fashion naturally and pursued his degree at LASALLE after junior college. He shared that his education in fashion has instilled in him skills, science, and theory beyond his expectations. “None of this appears out of thin air. A work of fashion is not born randomly. The sequence is complex and the process is rigorous," said De Han.
