Current part-time Fine Arts lecturer at LASALLE, and BA(Hons) Fine Arts alumni, Mohammad Khairullah Rahim, will be embarking on two art residencies shortly.

In August, he was awarded a place in AIR Taipei Residency 2017, and will be leaving for Taiwan in end October. But one art residency alone is not sufficient to satisfy Khairullah’s yearning to learn more about contemporary, global art. In his words: “I feel the power of the arts lies in its ability to transcend geographical boundaries, so before reaching the age of 30, I wish to grab as many chances as I can to explore other cultures and produce meaningful artworks.”

He thus applied for the IMPART Awards, an inaugural initiative by Art Outreach to nurture local art talents, and was notified of his win on 9 September. Come 2018 then, Khairullah will be travelling to Hubei, China, for another arts residency programme.

When asked about what line of research he intends to pursue during his overseas immersion, Khairullah replied that he wants to explore how public spaces can foster communal identity, and learn more about handicraft development that are native to his host countries.
