As one of the world’s most prolific and well-travelled industrial designers, the Cairo-born, England-raised, Canada-bred and New York-based Karim Rashid – whose style has been called relentlessly modern – was in Singapore this week to conduct a masterclass at LASALLE on the future of design in the digital age, followed by a talk as part of the College’s Public Lecture Series.

Karim shared the initial obstacles and resistance he faced as an aspiring designer because of the landscape then, and said that, in contrast, “Today, if a company doesn’t have a designer, it’s over – design is the only brand differentiation left.”
