A Musical Without Actors

Canvas Conversations is a four-piece electronic band that has been heavily lauded by industry insiders for their creation of highly textured soundscapes. Comprising of our Music alumni - Jeff Hue, Lee Bing Xiang, Namie Rasman, and Vick Low - Canvas Conversations will collaborate with fellow schoolmate Aqilah Misuary, and singer-songwriter Ferry to stage a highly immersive performance for the Esplanade’s Mosaic Music Series.

Titled Sudo, audiences will be enclosed by a long screen that features a live animation by Aqilah, and will be surrounded by speakers that will project sounds from Jeff’s, Bing Xiang’s and Vick’s vast array of instruments. With accompanying vocals by Namie and Ferry, a tale about our relationship with artificial intelligence will unfold.

As Jeff commented, “The audience can expect sensations that feel strange but familiar. You will also realise how flat a regular set-up sounds, compared with being surrounded by six speakers.” Vick further added that, “It’s almost like a musical, but without any actors, [as] the songs will switch between the perspective of two main characters.”
