Students of the BA(Hons) Musical Theatre Programme at LASALLE had the privilege of celebrating International Women’s Day 2014 with President Tony Tan Keng Yam and his wife, Mrs Mary Tan, patron of the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) at the launch of the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame.

Taking the stage in front of a packed hall of 550 guests at the gala dinner, students across all three levels wowed the audience with three songs: “Hall of Fame” as performed in FOX’s hit show Glee, “Just One Person" from the musical You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown and the iconic anthem "Defying Gravity" from the musical Wicked, performed solo by Level 3 student Hannah Lucas.

LASALLE was invited by the SCWO to be a part of the launch. "It was a real honour to be involved in this momentous milestone for Singapore and Singapore women, and to celebrate International Women's Day in such august company." said Tony Knight, Programme Leader, BA(Hons) Musical Theatre.

"For the students, this was a great opportunity to perform for a large audience of distinguished guests, and showcase their talent to the who's who of Singapore," he added.

The Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame aims to recognise and celebrate the many contributions of women to Singapore’s development. The 108 inaugural inductees’ achievements and contributions span two centuries and 13 fields of endeavour, ranging from the philanthropy of businesswoman Hajjah Fatimah Sulaiman in the 19th century to the sporting prowess of Singapore’s women Olympians and Paralympians in the 21st century.
