In this graduation season for LASALLE’s class of 2017, The Straits Times profiles two projects from Art Therapy and Fashion that reflect how art can make a difference in society.

MA Art Therapy graduand Pamela Lie gave up a comfortable job in sales to pursue a vocation which she felt would give her a stronger sense of purpose. Her final artwork Down the Rabbit Hole is made up of over 220 Enid Blyton books and was inspired by her encounters with young adults suffering from depression. “I felt that I finally found a way to express myself, and I hope to bring this liberty of self-expression to others,” said Pamela of her two-year journey with Art Therapy at LASALLE.

From the School of Fashion, BA(Hons) Fashion Design and Textiles graduands Elisa Lim and Ethrisha Liaw collaborated with Caroline Justine from BA(Hons) Fashion Media and Industries on their graduating project, 1000MPH. This groundbreaking collection aims to dress people with disabilities in clothes that not only look good, but are also tailored to fit their needs. The collection has been warmly received by customers and the team have plans to establish a brand, Will & Well, that will specialise in inclusive fashion for people with disabilities.

Both projects will be on display at The LASALLE Show Exhibition 2017 from 18 to 31 May.
