Girl From Bhutan Focuses On Migrant Workers Going For Match-Making

LASALLE BA(Hons) Film alumna Zuki Juno Tobgye was recently featured on The New York Times for her documentary, Searching for Wives, which she directed as her graduation thesis film in LASALLE.

Searching for Wives tells the true story of Patha, a lorry driver from South India, and his mission to find a wife before his 32nd birthday. Zuki shared that she was inspired by the opportunity to tell the story of migrant workers in Singapore, and hopes that with her short film, Singaporeans will see another side of migrant workers. “One day as I was flipping the papers for ideas, I came across an article about the studio. Their customers are mainly migrant workers looking to match-make. This got me interested. Although I was also a foreigner in Singapore, I knew little about migrant workers’ ethnic groups.”
