The Chan-Davies Art Prize, given to graduating artists from the Lasalle College of the Arts every year, has been awarded to Singapore-based visual artists Dipali Gupta and Gemma Kearney this year. Winning the fourth edition of the annual Chan-Davies prize, they each receive $15,000 in cash and a month-long exhibition at the Gillman Barracks gallery.

Gupta's piece, O Her!, showcases video works portraying female sexuality in settings similar to still-life paintings and traditional stereotypes. Kearney's piece, It's Grand Mother, challenges ideas of traditional narratives by commenting on familial relationships between mother and daughter in the sculpture of a stylised crow.

Both artists feel extremely grateful, and view the prize as a recognition of their art, which also helps them to continue financing their artistic endeavours in Singapore. Kearney says, "It's an absolute dream prize. I never expected to get anything like this. It's given me my freedom."
