In collaboration with Chinese director Wang Chong, LASALLE BA(Hons) Acting premiered a new work, Revolutionary Model Play 2.0 at SIFA 2015. This marked SIFA’s first commissioning project with a local educational institution.
The play, which explored the politics and art of the controversial figure Jiang Qing or Madam Mao (Mao Zedong’s fourth wife), was devised by students together with Wang Chong through workshops and research over the course of a year.
Students had the opportunity to work with numerous subject experts in the process, including ballet training with Xue Jinghua, the original lead dancer from Madam Mao’s The Red Detachment of Women.
“The student actors from LASALLE are really good actors to work with. They are really open and are trained to work in different theatrical forms,” said Wang Chong, Theatre Director
