Design collaboration with Goods of Desire (G.O.D.)

The collaboration with Goods of Desire (G.O.D.) gave our students the chance to respond to its brand ethos and work on the themes of ‘design for preservation’ and ‘the transformative idea of traditional to contemporary’.

Students from the Faculty of Design were required to formulate and develop engaging new ideas that fit the innovative brand concept of G.O.D.’s retail line. They were to react and produce variant products that would connect with Singapore’s’ culture and nostalgia.

Some of the questions asked by the students included, “What kind of experience do I want to impart though my design?” and “What kind of exchange would the products have in relations to the consumer?” Every student was encouraged to inject his or her personal reflection of the themes, namely, ‘Design for Preservation’, ‘Identity, Traditional to Contemporary’, and ‘Space’, to develop and contextualise their ideas with contemporary sensibilities.

A marriage of old and new, the students’ design proposals created dialogues through new visual explorations and communicated them in a cohesive and relevant manner. Mr Douglas Young, the founder of G.O.D., eventually chose between three and five winning products to be produced by G.O.D. commercially. The collaboration culminated into a G.O.D. + LASALLE exhibition where the design outcomes of this project were presented.
