Asia-Pacific Bond of Theatre Schools

For the first time in Singapore, LASALLE hosted the annual Asia-Pacific Bureau (APB) Theatre Schools Festival and Directors’ Conference in June 2015. 

Over 200 tertiary theatre students and faculties gathered at LASALLE for a week to celebrate performance and performance-making, showcase their work, and participate in workshops and panel discussions. Themed The body and voice in contemporary performance practices in the Asia Pacific region, a record number of 21 out of 22 member schools and two guest schools took part in this edition of the Festival. They hailed from diverse countries such as Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Mongolia, New Zealand and Vietnam.

The APB Theatre Schools was established in 2008 under UNESCO’s International Theatre Institute, with the aim of promoting interaction and exchange among theatre schools. The annual festival and conference provides a platform for sharing, showcasing and experimenting with different performance practices and pedagogies from many countries and cultures in the region.
