Within a western musical discourse, programmes introduce students to the diverse blend of ideas found in Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas - and schools them in a range of contemporary musical practices, in both practical and theoretical contexts.

Mentored by experienced artists, performers and educators in the field, students achieve a balanced syllabus - with opportunities to also gain familiarity with all specialisation areas, through ensembles, music technology, aural training, music culture and studio recording.

Students perform in a range of new venues, from formal proscenium theatres to casual cafes. They collaborate with other faculties: performing and composing for plays, musicals and films. They practice in a variety of modern spaces; and record in a state-of- the-art studio.

Study of music is a dynamic discipline, engaging students in the demands of a fast-growing performing arts industry. As a creative renaissance grows in the region, professional musicians are an essential part of a vibrant, multi-faceted cultural landscape. Through exploring, articulating and disseminating their personal artistic voice, skilled graduates can move confidently to the world stage.

Level 1 grounds students in the basic approaches, methods and skills of the course. They learn physical dexterity and mastery over their chosen instrument; and understanding the essential components of a musical language. Level 2 builds on performance practice, while introducing new composition techniques and wider areas of knowledge. Students develop aural awareness and learn to communicate music convincingly to the listener. Level 3 is concerned with integrating skills into professional practice, completing a major research thesis, and extending students’ abilities to meet pressures and requirements of production. They emerge equipped to work both collaboratively and independently, with individuality and self-motivation.

Teaching Methods: You will attend lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials. You will take part in performing ensembles, masterclasses and in-house and public performances.
