Fashion Management is concerned with the dynamic business and enterprise of fashion, from fashion supply chain management and consumer demand, to marketing sales and customer service at both macro and micro levels. The profession requires a thorough understanding of the processes of fashion and the industry, as well as an intuitive knack for identifying trends and bringing them to market, in a way that makes fashion design accessible and consumable for the public.
The programme provides students with both a holistic understanding of the culture, context and professional practice of fashion, as well as a specialist perspective: students begin sharing common modules before choosing one of four pathways in Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Fashion Management and Fashion Textiles, where they will develop, implement and realise creative concepts and marketable products.
Students in the Fashion Management specialism are equipped throughout their studies with necessary skills in collection planning, sourcing, production planning, manufacturing control, trend analysis, brand development, visual merchandising, budgeting and leadership. Also stressed are the basic principles of accounting, financial analysis, intellectual property law and marketing, as a basis for understanding the global supply chain.
Level One grounds students in key concepts and theories in fashion and introduces a range of technical skills and creative practice. It establishes its methodological and knowledge base in Semester One before allowing students to specialise in Semester Two. Level Two of the programme directs students in the creative application of technical skills and knowledge towards a specific fashion market. It includes a wide range of projects which expose students to teamwork, individual creativity and industry-focused partnerships. Level Three focuses on independent creative practice geared towards industry. Students are expected to negotiate and realise their own projects and to collaborate with peers from other pathways for innovative and exciting outcomes.
