Design has become imperative to everyday communication in the way it changes, influences and improves lives. A meaningful design solution inform our social and cultural norms, as well as inspires creativity and new forms of expression. With the creative industries expanding in Singapore, designers will become increasingly responsible for shaping the collective ethos of an interconnected age.

This programme offers three different specialisms: Advertising Communication, which fosters the idea of communication and the media as important cultural mechanisms in reflecting everyday life. It requires students to understand good advertising concepts and design communication principles; Graphic Communication seeks to develop an understanding of the visual language and culture in areas of communication such as Typography, Information design, Interactive design, and Packaging design; and Image & Communication, which concentrates on the framework of contemporary image making within the disciplines of illustration and photography, from traditional methods to digital and mixed-media applications.

The programme’s teaching philosophy focuses on practice-based learning, which allows students to discover and be enriched in an inter-disciplinary environment. Our coursework is structured to produce graduates with a range of analytical, reflective and communicative skills, with the central aim of meeting emergent professional and industry needs.

Level One establishes design methodologies and knowledge base of design principles. It also highlights the rules and core disciple skills that govern the design process, while providing a historical, social and creative introduction to the design practice. At Level Two, students are encouraged to be engaged and experimental in developing an understanding of design practice: they will respond to specialist briefs and nurture their strengths through a variety of projects. At Level Three, students embark on specific coursework to define their area of specialism. They continue to undertake a workload that brings together the diverse skills acquired in Levels One and Two and will acquire professional skills relevant to practical, contemporary practice.

Teaching Methods: You will attend lectures, critiques, workshops, seminars, tutorials and practical presentations. There will be regular guest lectures by international designers who will bring valuable experience and advice. Engaging in studio work and group and solo projects will also become part of your student life.

Entry Requirements: You need to meet the minimum academic requirements and are required to attend an interview with portfolio presentation to demonstrate your creative potential. Please refer to Entry Requirement for more details.
