Family-Bonding Performing Arts Workshop

Course Outline

This workshop is designed to promote aspects of healthy communication between family members & their children through creative arts in music & movement.

The curriculum creates opportunities for family bonding while letting their creative juices flow.

Participants will be able to experience and be exposed to different performing arts activities from an early age and be able to enhance & improve communication skills together with their family members.

The workshop promotes awareness of environment conservation, eg., recycling, reuse ad other environmental issues. Titled “go gO GO GREEN”the workshop will incorporate body movement, music play-acting and some element of theatre. The workshop is suitable for participant aged between 5-11 years old and any one of their family members.

Music and movement have been thought to be beneficial for childhood development. There have been suggestions by educators that participation in the performing arts may lead to improvement in other areas of education. Research has shown that even infants can appreciate music and body movement, indicating that there could be a connection between body movement, rhythm and aural awareness.

Family members refer to only close kin such as parent, active grandparents or older siblings above 16 years of age.

Who Should Attend ? Children 5 – 11 years old and their parent or grandparents or older sibling above 16 years of age.

Dance

Dance Intensive Camp (REGISTRATION CLOSED)

Materials Needed

Participants are encouraged to wear dance/exercise clothing that does not hinder movement.

Ballet shoes, socks and dress in leotard and tights for ballet, jazz/ yoga style clothes for other classes

Course Outline

This course provides participants with a taste of life in a University Dance programme. The two weeks are packed with classes that will help dance students of various levels improve their ballet and contemporary technique by increasing their body and spatial awareness, while introducing them to new movement styles and vocabulary. Taking 4 classes a day, Monday to Friday over a two-week period makes this intensive ideal for students who would like to understand dance as an art form, not just a discipline.

    Who Should Attend ? This course is targeted at potential students 15 yrs old and above. Current Foundation students and incoming new students who met the pre-requisites are also welcomed.
    Pre-requisites Foundation level dance training at LASALLE, an acceptance to the LASALLE foundation or Level 1 course, RAD/ CSTD Grade 6 ballet equivalency or RAD International Foundation. Audition may be required.

    Fashion

    Fascination for Fashion Design – Course I (Youth) (REGISTRATION CLOSED)
    Duration 3 – 11 June 2010 (Every Wed, Thurs & Fri) Time 1.00pm – 5.00pm
    No. of Lessons 6 Lessons (June: 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11) Fees $450
    Materials Needed To be advised on Day 1 of course. Cost of Materials (to be purchased by participants): Approx. $60
    Course Outline Designed with those in mind who are thinking of studying fashion design, this course enables participants to explore their own creativity. Throughout the course participants will learn how a collection is conceptualized and designed. The aim is to help participants to understand how a fashion designer works and how a garment is developed. Through short lectures, visual presentations, brainstorming sessions, group discussions, peer work and individual tasks participants will learn to collect inspirational material, sketch ideas and design an own collection.
    Who Should Attend ? Youth (15 – 21yrs old) who are thinking of studying fashion design or related pathways/fields.
    Discover the World of Fashion – Course II (Youth) (REGISTRATION CLOSED)
    Duration 31 May – 8 June (Every Mon & Tues) Time 10am – 5pm (1hr lunch break)
    No. of Lessons 8 Lessons (May: 31/June: 1, 7, 8) Fees $580
    Materials Needed To be advised on Day 1 of course. Cost of Materials (to be purchased by participants): Approx. $40
    Course Outline Designed with those in mind who are thinking of working in the fashion & apparel industry the course will give a comprehensive overall view on how the fashion industry works and how a fashion collection is conceptualized and applied to market needs. The aim is to help participants to understand the whole fashion circle and its apparel development and production processes. Through visual presentations, short lectures, brainstorming sessions, group discussions, peer work and individual tasks participants will learn to recognize trends, sketch ideas and design garments for an existing brand.
    Who Should Attend ? Youth (14 – 18yrs old) who are interested to discover about the fashion industry.
    Recycle Your Wardrobe (REGISTRATION CLOSED)
    Duration 15 – 18 June 2010 Fees $500

    Materials Needed Material to be purchased by participants - approximately $25 to be paid on the first day of class to the instructor. Additional cost of materials, to be purchased by participants: Approx. $35. To be advised on Day 1 of course.
    Course Outline
    • Exploration of creativity and finding inspiration in (daily) objects and existing garments.
    • Creating a garment made out of existing old garments (found in the participants’ wardrobe).

    Book-Making 101 (REGISTRATION CLOSED)
    Duration 17 – 18 June 2010 (Thursday & Friday) Time 7pm – 10pm

    Materials Needed Cost of Materials (to be purchased by participants): Approx. $20.
    Course Outline This is a hands-on practical workshop on how to produce your own hand-bound, hard cover book.
    Who Should Attend ? Students, Budding Artist and hobbyist.

    Course Outline

    An intensive 5 days course designed to improve the performance skills of young musicians. Student looking to put their skills into practice will benefit from the active learning environment. Students and professional musicians spend a week preparing for a public concert.

    Any in the process develop vocational skills.
