1) ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Completed High School (Grade 12), Junior College or Pre-University education.
  • Recognised Singapore qualification: Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'A' Level: Minimum 'Pass' in 2 subjects + General Paper or recognised equivalent.
  • Recognised international qualifications: Please click here to view list.

Note:

  • For Music Technology applicants: Additional subject requirement of Physics or Mathematics with a minimum ‘Pass’ or recognised equivalent.
  • For Design/Fine Arts/Media Arts applicants: ‘A’ Level Art/Art Elective Programme or International Baccalaureate (IB) Art & Design are not required subjects but represent the portfolio standard for eligibility into the BA(Hons).
  • Alternative English qualification: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 550.

2) PORTFOLIO/AUDITION GUIDELINES

Arts Management

  • Evidence of arts experience/ involvement through practice, studies or work.

Design

Design Communication, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Fashion Management, Fashion Textiles, Interior Design and Product Design

  • A portfolio containing at least 10 pieces of original work (actual or documented) that demonstrate your creative development and process.
  • The portfolio should include drawings, sketches, idea developments, 2-D work (e.g. Posters, Editorial, Photography, Paintings, printmaking, digital imaging, etc.) or 3-D work (e.g. 3D Design, Packaging design, etc).
  • Your Portfolio should consist of works solely created by yourself in order to perform an appropriate assessment of your entry level.

Fine Arts

  • A portfolio containing appropriate documentation of 10 - 15 examples of your artwork which can be presented in the form of slides, photographs, video, or Mac-compatible CDs or DVDs (digital images not exceeding 800KB) with accompanying explanations of your artwork. The portfolio could include a variety of 2D work (e.g. paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, digital imaging), 3D work (e.g. ceramics, sculptures, installations) or new media work (animation, video art, web art)
  • A sketchbook or visual research journal that allows us to see and experience your mode of creative ideas, whether resolved or unrealised.
  • Please include a summary of reasons for choosing the Fine Arts programme (to be submitted on interview day).

Media Arts
Animation Art / Interactive Art / Video Art

Applicants should demonstrate a clear motivation and commitment to the course and subject area. We are looking for individuals who are able to show the dedication, stamina and self-discipline required to conceptualise, develop and produce work to the highest standards. Applicants require the following:

  • A portfolio containing at least 15 pieces of original work that demonstrate your creative development and process, as well as sketchbooks or visual research journals. The portfolio should include a variety of 2D work (e.g. drawings, paintings, prints, digital imaging), 3D work (e.g. ceramics, sculptures) or multimedia work (e.g. animation, website design).
  • Good level of writing skills
Programme     
Additional Prerequisites
Animation Art Your portfolio should demonstrate observation and drawing skills through life drawing and storyboards. Actual Animation is not required. However, your work should demonstrate a sense of movement, narrative and storytelling
Interactive Art Your portfolio should demonstrate realised digital arts projects and basic knowledge of computer skills, or evidence of technological based works
Video Art
Your portfolio should include samples of video clips, short films or photography. An interest in videorelated technology, multimedia and the ability to communicate visually would be an added benefit


Film

  • Portfolio: What we’re looking for in a student is commitment, motivation and a love for storytelling – an interestt in bringing a good story to life for the screen. We also look for good team players.
  • To be eligible to apply, it is not necessary to have made films or videos.
  • At your interview, you may present a story or treatment for a story that you would like to make for the screen. The content is important. Explain why you think this will be an interesting story and make use of pictures/photographs to reflect the story.

PERFORMING ARTS

Acting

  • Perform 2 contrasting speeches from memory and in English.

One of the speeches should be Shakespearean and the other a more contemporary piece.

 

Dance

  • Applicants will be required to do a 1.5 hours ballet class for the Audition. Additional Contemporary Dance combinations may be given.
  • If the applicant feels Ballet or Contemporary Dance does not best demonstrate their natural dance ability they may also have the opportunity to perform a solo demonstrating another technique, e.g. Jazz or Hip Hop. The duration of the solo is 3–5 minutes. The applicant should indicate this request in the application form, but is subject to approval.
  • Applicants who have absolutely no experience in the Ballet/Contemporary Dance are to submit a DVD of themselves dancing in the technique that they are familiar with, prior to the audition date, or to bring the DVD with them for the audition.

Things to consider
In preparing for the audition it is advisable that you thoroughly warm up and that you wear appropriate dance wear and foot wear for the audition.

Please take note that you may be asked to improvise in your audition.

What are we looking for?
The assessment of your audition will be based on your ability to pick up and replicate steps, show natural dance ability, a good understanding of the chosen technique, a strong performance quality and a passion for movement.

We are looking for people who are disciplined, open to learning and are dedicated to growing in their art.

Assignments: To be completed at audition/interview

  • Be prepared to talk about your favourite dancer or a memorable dance performance. What, who inspires you, and why you have chosen to come to LASALLE.
  • Write about a dance performance that you have seen recently. Did you like it? Why? (Approx 200–250 words)

Assignments: To be submitted at audition/interview

  • Are Waffles really better than Pancakes? (Approx 200–250 words)

 

Music

Music training pre-requisites for ALL Music applicant

  • Theory: ABRSM or Trinity Guildhall Grade 6 or higher.
  • Practical: ABRSM or Trinity Guildhall Grade 8 or higher.
  • Applications may also be eligible for acceptance into Foundation Level in the case of a sufficient demonstration of instrumental ability or folio to an equivalent level to the above criteria.

Audition Guidelines

  • Theory: Complete a theory, written and aural test equivalent to ABRSM Grade 6 set by the School of Contemporary Music.
  • Practical: Present 2 contrasting pieces with the following conditions for Classical Music, Jazz and Popular Music applicants (Music Scores must be submitted to the audition panel):

Technical Theatre

  • Technical Theatre deals with the various technical aspects of mounting a stage performance.
  • The technical personnel are artists concerned with transferring on the performance space any visual and emotional responses elicited from drama, dance, music as well as all forms of performance.
  • As aspiring students of Technical Theatre you are required to express your own visual and emotional responses to a dramatic piece.

Tasks Guideline
Preparation
  • Please select one from the following three Singaporean plays:
    • Cetecea by Otto Fong.
    • Diary of A Madwoman by Chin Woon Ping
    • Kopitiam by Kuo Pao Kun.
  • Write a brief account (max one A4 size page) for the reason of your choice.
Interactive Art
  • Present your responses to, and the ways by which you would chose in order to present this play in any, or all, of the following ways:
    • Research/photos or pictorial references
    • Sketches/renderings
    • Story boards
    • Collages
    • 3D models
  • Please do not feel restricted if you consider you do not possess excellent painting or drawing skills. We are looking for originality and creativity of ideas as well as interesting presentation.




Theatre + Performance

  • Evidence of theatre practice, study or work, including one direction/design concept of a chosen play.
  • Include a written statement on your artistic background, production involvement and motivation to study theatre.

    • You may include your performing experience, theatre-going, writing for performance, directing/ choreographing group presentations or working backstage.
    • In your statement, attention should be given to both concept and result.
