Kathryn Shannon Sim
Lecturer, Design Communication

From her work experience over the years, Shannon has learnt that creativity is a multi-faceted concept that manifests itself in many different ways in our daily lives. It is also this similar insight that has become a motivating tool and a driving force throughout her eight rewarding years in the creative industry.

With a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts (with Distinction) from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and having worked with people from diverse professional settings as a Copywriter, Graphic Designer, and Editor, Shannon has acquired versatility in copywriting and is a firm believer in the power of words and imagery.

A wordsmith with a fine taste for meaningful design, Shannon’s strength lies in her ability to understand the intricacies and strategic role of branding in Asia, and has successfully inspired many Asian brands locally and internationally.

She has a distinguished track record in having served businesses and offered brand advisory across major industry segments in Singapore, including clients such as the Singapore Airport Terminal Services, National Library Board (NLB), National Arts Council (NAC), Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School Singapore, Goodrich Global, Mr Bean, M2M and Michelle Moore - lifestyle brands for European markets, Camel Nuts, and Haato, during her stint as a copywriter with the award-winning agency, Ukulele Brand Consultants Pte Ltd.

In Singapore alone, she has been awarded luminious awards such as the Singapore Prestige Brand Awards (SPBA) for Most Popular Brand Awards 2008 (Mr Bean), SPBA Citibusiness Regional Brands 2007 (Goodrich Global Pte Ltd), SPBA – Established Brand 2007 and SPBA Most Popular Brand Award 2007 (Mr Bean), SPBA Award Winner 2006 and SPBA Distinctive Brand Award 2006 (Goodrich Global Pte Ltd) and also SPBA Award Winner 2006 and SPBA Most Popular Brand Award 2006 (Mr Bean).

Through Shannon’s teaching experience thus far, she has found the method of facilitating rather than dictating to be a highly beneficial style of teaching as every student’s learning pace is different. For this reason, her ability to motivate students in ascertaining their inner strengths and capabilities, whilst discovering what truly inspires them is perhaps one of her most noteworthy attributes.

As an advocate of a unique learning philosophy that fuses academic rigour with innovative research for an immersive creative learning experience, Shannon aims to groom creative aspirants into capable, confident creative leaders of tomorrow, and in return fly the flag of LASALLE at home and abroad as one of the world’s great arts institutions.
